Hey All –
Time for me to put my promoter hat on and get ready to celebrate 10 years of Mamapalooza at Riverside Park South as part of the Summer on the Hudson series.
Honestly I started all this hulabaloo, because a wanted to see more opportunities for amazing people to strut their stuff in large scale venues. The collective of women and mothers I knew were so talented, so gifted, and so blow-your-mind musical that I just had to create a venue that would raise the visibility of these kinds of atypical artists.
When I started my band, Housewives On Prozac in 1997, there was literally NOTHING about a culture of Mom Rock anywhere. The New York Times did a story in 1997 in the Lifestyles section (I have it archived in a stack of papers somewhere in my garage) and the ball started slowly rolling. Because of the amazing press Housewives received and the opportunities that we had to play first rate NYC nightspots, like The Bottom Line, CBGBs, The Cutting Room and so many more, I just had to spread the love.
In 2004 Women’s E-news did a story, as did the Wall Street Journal, Ladies’ Home Journal and Fox News among others. The ball kept rolling. It rolled loud and fast and together we did put the idea of Mom-branded entertainment on the map. Now its expanded to include women-made businesses and education- That’s where the Museum of Motherhood comes in.
This year’s festival is May 19th in NYC. Find out more about the exhibitors, performers and NY Parks here. Mostly, come listen, participate and enJOY with your whole family if you’re in the vicinity of New York City!!
